Millennials today have a very stressful life. Whether it is at work or at home or even with relationships, there are days when all you want to do is run away or if you are anything like me, then just hide under a blanket and not come out ever. Also not to forget, our FOMO (fear of missing out) is putting a toll on our minds and bodies. Stress gets to the best of us and it is very easy to forget about self-care then. But we do need to reboot and get back up there recharged. So here are 9 ways in which you can distress and calm yourself when stressed.
Take a Long Bath
If you’re lucky enough to have a bathtub, then just forget everything and jump straight in. But for those who don’t have a bathtub, just standing under a shower after a stressful day will make all the difference. I like to take a long shower, with some peppy music on, wash my hair, put on some nice clean clothes and follow up with my night time skin care routine. It instantly peps me up after a tough day.
Light Some Candles or Essential Oils
We all know that smell triggers memory. Scents also help reduce stress and anxiety, relax your body and also promote sleep. Light some aromatherapy candles. I also like to use essential oils like lavender, rosemary, rose, ylang ylang etc. in a diffuser. This not only cheers me up but also makes my house smell wonderful.
Brew Up Some Tea
Just the idea of having a hot drink in my hand, cuddled up in a blanket, relaxes me. I usually include a calming night time tea like chamomile during my night time routine.
Put on Some Music
Listening to music always cheers me up. When I used to work in a law firm, the amount of stress and work pressure was never ending. But what kept me going though out the day was just putting on my headphones and listening to music. Listening to music instantly takes you in a different world.
Binge Watch Your Favorite TV Shows
Drown your self in some light comedy or drama or whatever you like. It will take your mind away from all the problems and stress that’s around you.
Read a Book
For people who are into reading it is one of the best stress busters. I am not much a reader now, I used to be though. But reading a book will drift your thoughts away from everything else.
Go For A Walk or To The Gym
Sometimes all you need to do to stay calm and focused is to Sweat. Believe it or not, exercising has some direct stress-busting benefits. It helps to lower the levels of anxiety. And it will also keep you in shape, so why not.
Talk To Someone
Somedays all you want to do is to rant all your troubles to someone. Just getting whatever is bothering you out of your system will makeup you feel better. These days in the an era where the only mode of communication we have is through social media, it is very easy to feel isolated and depressed. Just switch off all your tech and go meet an old friend.
Eat That Dessert
Forget about calories for a while and get your self your favorite dessert. But don’t make it a habit. Lol. Its okay to indulge once in a while. You cant even imagine what that piece of chocolate mud pie can do to your spirits when you are feeling low.
