My Two Step Morning Moisturizer Routine

I think I have found my perfect moisturizer. I have combination skin and finding the moisturizer that combats oily, shine prone skin with certain dry patches here and there was a task.

So after the usual cleansing and toning routine, I take a pea size amount of Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream on my palm. Then I squeeze out an equal amount of Loreal UV Perfect Aqua Essence UV Protector SPF 50+ sunscreen, mix the two together and slather it all over my face and neck.

The reason I mix the two together and not apply them separately is because after I apply one i.e. the Kiehls cream, I would give it a few minutes for it to be absorbed into my skin and then apply the sunscreen. However, in the process of getting ready and rushing for work in the morning, I would forget to apply the sunscreen. So I thought its best I mix the two together apply them at one go. The combination of the two products keeps my skin hydrated and also gives me protection from the sun. However, I do need to apply a compact to keep my face from getting shiny.

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream

Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Cream is a light weight, water based moisturizer. I would say the consistency is slightly thick, but it does get absorbed into the skin quickly. It is extremely hydrating. I would say that it makes for a very good fall and winter moisturizer, for summers it might get a tad bit oily. Having said that, I don’t like the tub packaging that the cream comes in. I would have loved it if it was in a tube form or any other packaging where you do not have to dip your fingers in.

Loreal UV Perfect Aqua Essence UV Protector SPF 50+ sunscreen

Love it or hate it, you have to apply sunscreen daily. I used to be very loyal to my Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch Sunblock SPF 50+, until last year, when I happened to stumble upon the Loreal Aqua Essence sunscreen. I still do love my Neutrogena one very much, but I just wanted to switch up my skincare products a bit so gave this a try. The texture of the cream is very light and almost gel like. As the name suggests, it is water based and quite light on application. It does not leave any white cast onto your skin, which I think deters most women from using a sunscreen.

After buying and using for more than 2 weeks the Kiehl’s Calendula face wash and toner I am now a fan of the brand. Been hearing a lot of good stuff about this moisturizer. I will try to get one when winter comes. It’s thick creamy consistency seems perfect for such season. I’m not a fan of jar packaging either. Once opened and exposed it’s like the product is losing its potency.

I have used the L’Oréal sunscreen. While it doesn’t leave a white cast, I found it made my oily skin oily; just like most sunscreens.
